How to Prevent Ingrown Hairs

One of the more common skin issues that people experience is ingrown hairs. What is an ingrown hair? They’re caused by small hairs under the skin that do not grow upward through the skin, as they should. Instead, the tip of an ingrown hair grows sideways or curls back into the hair follicle to cause a localized area of skin irritation and inflammation. They often appear on the surface of the skin as small red bumps resembling pimples. We’ve all had them, and nobody likes them, so how can they be avoided?

Waxing is a great way to prevent ingrown hairs because the process removes dead skin from the surface, making it less likely hair will be trapped beneath the skin. Waxing also thins the hair since it is pulled from the root so less hair will be growing back.

Exfoliating is another excellent way to prevent ingrown hair. Through exfoliating, you can remove dead skin by slowly massaging, once a day, the areas commonly affected by ingrown hair with an exfoliating glove. We prefer an exfoliating glove, because you can easily through them in the wash to keep them from collecting bacteria.

At Lethal Lash Beauty we carry Clarifying Toner Pads. Our Clarifying Pads are a wonderful preventative for ingrown hair, because they contain glycolic and salicylic acid which chemically exfoliate by breaking down layers of thick skin over time.

And finally, keeping your skin from drying by moisturizing daily will help prevent infections because it will protect the overall health and plasticity of your skin. These are just a few of the great ways to treat, or prevent ingrown hairs, and definitely worth working into your daily skin care routine!
